EMERITUS BISHOP OF SIVANGAGAI

Most Rev. Dr. J. Susaimanickam

Bishop J. Susaimanickam is the second Bishop of the Diocese of Sivagangai in Tamil Nadu, India. He was born on 25 September 1945 and was ordained a priest on 20 April 1971. He is widely respected for his deep knowledge of Sacred Scripture and his dedication to biblical scholarship.

Before becoming bishop, he served the Church in several important roles, especially in theological education and biblical formation, guiding seminarians, priests, and lay faithful in the study of the Word of God and promoting biblical spirituality.

He was appointed Bishop of Sivagangai in April 2005 by Pope John Paul II and was consecrated on 25 July 2005. During his episcopal ministry, he worked for the spiritual, pastoral, and institutional development of the diocese.

Bishop Susaimanickam encouraged biblical apostolate, priestly formation, catechetical renewal,and greater participation of the laity in the mission of the Church. Through his leadership, the Diocese of Sivagangai continued to grow in faith formation, pastoral outreach, and social service activities. 

He officially resigned on 25 September 2020 upon reaching the canonical retirement age (75). He stays at Vianney Home for the Retired Priests in the Bishop's House Campus, Sivagangai.

His life and ministry continue to inspire many through his wisdom, dedication to the Word of God, and faithful service to the Church.
