History

Andavoorani stands as one of the ancient parishes in the Marava region, deeply rooted in history. It was profoundly influenced by St. John de Britto, who administered sacraments and facilitated the conversion of many ancestors of the current parishioners. The parish's establishment dates back to October 1893, following the resolution of the Goanese question. Over time, Andavoorani has been instrumental in the creation of three new parishes: Oriyur, Nanakudi, and Nagarikathan.
Recognizing the need for a central hub between the southern and northern churches, a third church was constructed in 1924 under the guidance of the esteemed Fr. Levil. This church, dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, became a focal point for the community. Accompanying this new church was the construction of a modern presbytery, enhancing the parish's infrastructure and services.
