Pope Francis appointed Father Lourdu Anandam as bishop of Sivagangai on Sept. 21, 2023. Bishop Anandam was born on Aug. 15, 1958, in Thiruvarangam in Tamil Nadu. After studying philosophy at Arul Anandar College in Madurai and theology at St. Paul’s Seminary in Tiruchirappalli, he obtained a doctorate in systematic theology from the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg (Germany). He was ordained a priest on April 6, 1986, for Madurai archdiocese.
