The Basic Christian Communities (BCC), popularly known as Anbiyam, serves as one of the foundational pillars of the Vianney Pastoral Centre in the Diocese of Sivagangai. It gives vibrant expression to the synodal vision of the Diocese by fostering communion, participation, and mission among the faithful.
The BCC Commission acts as a dynamic force for ecclesial renewal, bringing together families and individuals into a living and faith-filled Christian community. By promoting the “New Way of Being Church,” Anbiyam nurtures a spirit of unity, mutual care, spiritual growth, and neighbourly love at the grassroots level.
Through regular Gospel Sharing, prayer gatherings, and collective discernment, the commission empowers the laity to become active participants in the evangelising mission of the Church within their own neighbourhoods and communities.
Each Anbiyam unit becomes a small but vibrant expression of the Universal Church, where:
- faith is shared and strengthened,
- families grow in Christian fellowship,
- the voices of the poor and marginalised are heard,
- and bonds of fraternity and charity are deepened.
In today’s world, often marked by isolation and division, the BCC Commission remains committed to transforming every street and village into a living witness of God’s love, communion, and social solidarity.
Ultimately, the mission of the Basic Christian Communities is to build a Church that is truly:
- participatory,
- prayerful,
- compassionate,
- missionary,
- and united in heart and mind according to the Gospel values.
