History
Thirupathur was once known as the "Os maravanese" by early missionaries, signifying its status as the gateway to the Marava region. Until the era of St. John de Britto, all evangelistic endeavors were centered on this taluk, with Themmapattu as its focal point. This area holds the distinction of being the oldest Christian settlement in the vicinity, with a Catholic heritage dating back to 1691. However, it wasn't until 1940 that Thirupathur parish was officially established, carved out from Kuthalur parish, although Themmapattu remained its center initially. In 1954, under Fr. R.S. Arulanandam's leadership, the parish center was relocated from Themmapattu to Thirupathur. In 1981, Fr. A. Mariadass oversaw the construction of the new parish church in Thirupathur.
