History
During the reign of "Chinna Marudhu" in Sivagangai and the evangelistic efforts of "Chinna Saveriar" (1715-1775) in Sarugani, several groups of Catholics migrated from the north to Marava to escape persecution. One of these settlements is Susaiapparpattanam, named after the small chapel erected there in honor of St. Joseph. It is likely that Chinna Saveriar visited this community during his ministry. Initially under Goan jurisdiction, Fr. Peter oversaw Marava and built a modest presbytery in Pallithammam in 1856. However, it wasn't until 1934 that Susaiapparpattanam was officially established as a parish.
In the mid-20th century, the current magnificent church replaced the former one under Fr. Duhr's leadership, with the tower completed by his successor, Fr. S. Vedamuthu. This ancient parish boasts excellent educational facilities and has given rise to three new parishes: Andichoorani, followed by Sagaya Nagar, and finally Kalyarkoil.
