History
Sayalkudi was predominantly a Hindu town with no Christian presence until Fr. Diraviam was inspired to purchase 50 cents of land from a local landlord. He then built a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Vailankanni. With Fr. M. Alphonse's efforts, Sayalkudi became an independent parish on 22nd April 1992. Today, along with the church and presbytery, there are additional rooms and sheds for pilgrims who visit the Marian center for devotion. This center attracts numerous devotees, including Hindus.
