History

In August 1911, a portion of Susaiapparpattanam parish in the northern region was separated to form a distinct parish with Satharasanpatty as its focal point. St. John de Britto's journey to Paganeri via Kalayarkoil, following his arrest at Mangalam, was marked by numerous humiliations and torments. Stripped of his clothing, he endured being stretched on a pointed rock and dragged by eight men who trampled him underfoot. That very rock, near the Hindu temple, remains as it was, a poignant reminder of his suffering. Beside it, a substantial bank lies, believed by both Hindus and Christians to have been blessed by the Saint. It consistently retains water even in times of severe drought, ensuring the rice fields dependent on it reach maturity.

Panangudi, an outstation predominantly populated by Kallars, traces its conversion to Catholicism back to St. John de Britto's era. However, their present circumstances are somewhat obscured. They freely intermarry with their Hindu counterparts, disregarding canonical requirements. The parish church underwent subsequent renovations.
