History
The roots of Catholicism in this region extend back to 1692 when St. John de Britto preached and administered baptisms in the vicinity of Nallenthal, located 12 kilometers northeast of Pagaianjan. Among those baptized was Karuppanan, a Dalit from this village, who embraced the faith despite opposition from his fellow villagers. His steadfast commitment earned him the epithet "the fearless man" in Tamil, which translates to "Pagaianjan." Consequently, this name became associated with the village itself.
The new parish of Pagaianjan was formally established on 24th July 1988, comprising 29 villages previously part of the neighboring Suranam and Ilayangudi parishes.
