History

        Savariarpattanam gets its name from being a Catholic settlement near the historic Marandai village in Muthukulathur taluk. Initially part of Thiruvarangam parish, it gained independence as a parish in 1945. The longstanding rivalry between Therkoor and Vadakoor, the two areas within this parish, appears to have ended with the establishment of a unified school and the construction of a beautiful parish church in Gothic style in Therkoor.
