History

Kuthalur stands as one of the earliest recipients of the Gospel's teachings in the Marava region. According to local traditions, the initial converts hailed from Avoor, a place likely traversed by St. John de Britto multiple times. The apostolic work in Marava began in 1845, initiated by Fr. Peter Perrin from here. The establishment of Kuthalur parish likely occurred around May 1860.

At its peak, Kuthalur parish encompassed territories reaching Melur in the West, Devakottai in the East, and Thirumayam in the North. Over time, it gave rise to other parishes like Thirupathur, Satharasanpatti, Karaikudi, and Kallal. Notably, since the 1950s, the parish has celebrated "God's Day" in harmony with Hindus, fostering friendly relations across communities..
