History

            Irudayapuram Parish has a long-standing history behind its formation as a parish. In the early 1600s, a Christian community began to thrive in this region. However, it wasn't until the turn of the century that the Madurai Mission recognized the necessity of establishing a parish center between Karankadu and Ramnad, which were roughly 50 kilometers apart. As a result, about four acres of dry land were purchased near Thombadakottai.

The founding of Irudayapuram parish took place in 1918 during Fr. Planchard's tenure as the Superior of the mission. Fr. Mares assumed the role of the first parish priest. By 1922, a new and spacious church had been erected under the supervision of Fr. Ambrose Missier.

This parish has since become the origin of two additional parishes, namely Sengudi and R.S. Mangalam.
