History

            The current Ilayankudi parish, originally a sub-station of the former Kundukulam parish, was established independently from Suranam in 1948. Due to Ilayankudi's central location, it gained official parish status in 1980, leading Kundukulam to become one of its sub-stations. However, there are ongoing efforts to once again establish Kundukulam as a separate parish. Recognizing the need for a larger space, a new church was built on the outskirts of Ilayangudi, featuring elements of Hindu temple architecture. This new church was consecrated on 24th April 1993, although the construction of the presbytery is still pending. In the meantime, the priests are residing in rooms within the school complex nearby.
