History

            Devakottai-Extension, Ramnagar parish, was established in 1942, having been carved out of Kuthalur and Puliyal parishes. Initially, the parish priest resided at the Jesuit house within the De Britto High School campus, and Sunday masses were held at Mullikundu. It wasn't until 1943 that the current parish center site was acquired and developed, including the construction of the Holy Redeemer's Church and St. Joseph's Home for boys. From 1975 to 1990, Ramnagar served as the center of the Devakottai Vicariate. However, in 1990, when Devakottai town became a separate parish and vicariate center, Ramnagar transitioned into a smaller parish with only six sub-stations under its jurisdiction.
