History
Devakottai town was originally part of the Ramnagar parish, where Sunday Masses were conducted at St. John's Middle School for a considerable period. In the late seventies, Father S. Vedamuthu, the then Vicar Forane, acquired the current site for the church and laid its foundation stone. The construction of the present church was overseen by Father M. Rajasekaran, and it was consecrated on 17th February 1985 by the Most Reverend Justin Diraviam, Archbishop of Madurai. It wasn't until 1990 that Devakottai became an independent parish with 19 sub-stations and was elevated as the vicariate center. Father A. Arulanandam was appointed as its inaugural parish priest and Vicar Forane.
